Sanya's Dadonghai Tourist Area has been designated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction following a grand unveiling ceremony on May 22.
This recognition marks the successful completion of a comprehensive three-year transformation that has elevated this coastal gem into a world-class destination. The extensive upgrades from 2023 to 2025 focused on smart tourism infrastructure, international service standards, and cultural tourism integration.
Dadonghai, situated between Yulin Port and Luhuitou Scenic Area in southern Sanya, features a beautiful 2.9-kilometer crescent coastline. It covers 19.49 hectares of land and 26.08 hectares of marine area. Surrounded by hills and facing the South China Sea, this tropical location enjoys consistent sunshine and a warm marine monsoon climate year-round.
As Sanya's first open-access scenic area, it has earned multiple accolades, including the "2022 TOP20 Cultural Tourism Project" and the "National Tourism &Leisure Block" title in February 2025.
Sanya Tourism Development Group initiated a major transformation in the area, including a new visitor center, 1.5 km of upgraded walkways, 15 renovated beach access points, and trilingual signage in Chinese, English, and Russian. All local businesses now accept mobile payments and international credit cards for added convenience.
Dadonghai features seven zones for various interests: ecological conservation, cultural experiences, marine sports, leisure dining, beach activities, visitor services, and urban parks. With the addition of trendy spots like the IPK Beach Bar and exciting water sports, it has become a must-visit destination.
With this designation, Dadonghai is poised to become a key driver of Hainan's international tourism growth, offering visitors an unforgettable tropical experience blending natural beauty with modern hospitality.
