Hainan Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students

In order to further internationalize the higher education in Hainan province, Hainan provincial government decided to set up the "Hainan Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students" in 2013. The Scholarship aims to financially support the outstanding international students who plan to study in universities in Hainan for their bachelor's, master's or doctor's degree. The successful applicants will be granted a financial support as much as a maximum of 25,000 yuan ($3,784) per student per year.

The scholarship will cover registration fee, tuition fee, textbooks and comprehensive insurance premium, while other fees should be borne by the applicants themselves. The scholarship is open for application once a year. The undergraduate program applicants are entitled to the sponsorship for four academic years (five academic years for medical students) with 20,000 yuan per year; postgraduate program applicants are entitled to three years of sponsorship with 23,000 yuan per year while Ph D candidate applicants to three years with 25,000 yuan per year. 

From 2013, the scholarship has sponsored 50 students each year. The scholarship applicants need to meet the following requirements:  

(1) The undergraduate program applicants need to be below the age of 30, and are required to have a diploma or certificate equivalent to that of Chinese senior middle school.  

(2) The postgraduate program applicants need to be below the age of 35, and are required to have a bachelor's degree or equivalent education experience; they also need to submit two recommendation letters by professors or associate professors.

(3) The PhD candidate applicants need to be below the age of 40, with master's degree or equivalent education experience, and two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors.  

(4) All applications are only open to foreign citizens with foreign passports.  

The application is normally handled between January and April each year.
