Since 2019, more than 400 companies have established operations in Sanya Deep-sea Science and Technology City. Notable entrants are Sanya Huada Institute of Life Sciences, Hainan Acoustics Deep Blue Ocean Technology, and Sanya SlanDeep Ocean Technology, all of which have recently expanded their research and production facilities.
Several of these companies have been designated as provincial-level key think tanks, innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs), or national high-tech enterprises. This recognition underscores their growing role and advancing capabilities within the deep-sea technology sector.
The zone provides strategic benefits like its closeness to the deep-sea regions of the South China Sea, the Nanshan Scientific Mother Port, national marine testing sites, and shared facilities such as the Deep-sea Equipment Processing and Assembly Center. These assets offer a streamlined route for companies involved in deep-sea exploration and technology.
Focusing on developing a collaborative industrial ecosystem, the zone has attracted top universities such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Harbin Engineering University, research institutes like the Deep-sea Science and Engineering Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and major State-owned companies including China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). This setting fosters integrated innovation from fundamental research to commercial application.
Companies operating within the Hainan Free Trade Port benefit from streamlined government services and a range of policy incentives, including zero tariffs and reduced tax rates.
In addition, quality housing, comprehensive education systems, and advanced medical facilities enhance the overall livability of the zone. These improvements are instrumental in attracting and retaining skilled talent.
Through these efforts, Sanya Deep-sea Science and Technology City has emerged as a key hub for investment and innovation in marine technology.
