Sanya's H1 foreign trade growth ranks first in Hainan

In the first half of 2021, Sanya's foreign trade imports and exports amounted to 9.92 billion yuan ($1.52 billion), a year-on-year increase of 125.8 percent. The growth rate of the city was 79.7 percent higher than that of the entire province, ranking it first in the province, according to Sanya Customs on July 27.

The export amount was 470 million yuan in the first half of the year, an increase of 118.7 percent year on year. Biodiesel and aquatic products were the main export commodities. Exports of biodiesel totaled 170 million yuan, accounting for 36.3 percent of the city's total foreign trade exports. Aquatic products exported amounted to 130 million yuan, and accounted for 27 percent of the total. Mechanical and electrical products exports were 130 million yuan, an increase of 80.2 times year on year, specifically mining trucks and excavators, which were exported through Sanya's ports. In addition, 34.51 million yuan of basic organic chemicals were exported.

Imports totaled 9.45 billion yuan in the first half of the year, increasing 126.1 percent year on year. The city has imported 8.31 billion yuan of consumer goods, accounting for 88 percent of the city's total foreign trade imports. Among them, daily chemical products were 3.11 billion yuan, a 0.6 percent increase. Clothing, footwear and hats brought in 1.99 billion yuan, with a rapid growth of 310.7 percent. Jewelry amounted to 1.45 billion yuan, an increase of 425.4 percent, and there were 210 million yuan of "zero tariffs" yachts imported in the city.

Favorable factors, such as the effects from Hainan's offshore islands duty-free policy and the continued return of overseas consumption by Chinese residents, have driven Sanya's imports of duty-free goods to show rapid growth. In the first half of the year, 7.64 billion yuan was imported in the form of duty-free goods, showing a noteworthy increase of 92.5 percent.
