Sanya residents can receive divalent HPV vaccine without appointment

Sanya Women and Children's Healthcare Hospital has opened divalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations. People can receive vaccinations by providing their ID cards from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on weekdays. The price is 351 yuan ($54.3) per injection and no appointment is required.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in Hainan province. Its morbidity and mortality rate rank first among the malignant tumors in the female reproductive system, and it has shown a trend in younger generations in recent years. HPV infections cause 99.7 percent of cervical cancers.

According to Meng Yunqin, chief of the Department of Immunization at Sanya Women and Children's Healthcare Hospital, the vaccine is suitable for women aged nine to 45 years old. For girls aged between nine and 14, two doses are needed with an interval of no less than five months. Women aged between 15 and 45 should receive three doses. The second dose can be inoculated within one or two months after the first dose, and the third dose can be taken within five to eight months after the first dose.

Those who are allergic to the ingredients in the vaccine, and those suffering from acute diseases, severe chronic diseases or have a fever as well as women who are preparing for pregnancy, already pregnant or breastfeeding are not suitable for the vaccine. In addition, the time between receiving the HPV vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine should be longer than 14 days.
