Tourism-themed design competition kicks off in Sanya

Sanya, a coastal city in Hainan province held a special tourism products design competition on July 4, to explore innovative travel routes and meet the varied demands of tourists from 17 countries. 

The competition was themed on the Greater Sanya Tourism and Economic Circle, which covers Sanya and its nearby counties of Ledong, Baoting, and Lingshui, and is the only tropical coastal area in China, as well as the region in the province with the most high-quality and intensive tourism resources.
The competition requires participants to launch innovative tour routes throughout the Greater Sanya area around different themes, including sightseeing tours, ecological tours, shopping tours, fashion tours, food tours, family tours, study tours, yacht tours, island tours, health tours, cultural tours, and rural tours.
Fifty award-winning products will be chosen with a bonus of 5,000 yuan ($727.16), as well as a three-year plan (2019-21) to support the promotion of the products.
"We need to promote the development of international, high-end, and personalized tourism products to cultivate new forms of tourism consumption in the Greater Sanya area, build the ‘Greater Sanya’ tourism brand, as well as eventually promote the transformation and upgrading of tourism consumption," said Chen Tiejun, vice mayor of Sanya.
Sponsored by Sanya and jointly held by Ledong, Baoting, and Lingshui, the competition will last until Aug 31.
