Teenagers compete for qualifications to intl OP race

The 2019 Metropolis Optimist Team Race & Monaco Optimist Team Race China Qualification (Sanya Station) opened at Sanya Visun International Yacht Marina on Aug 14. Nearly 40 sailors from cities such as Sanya, Haikou, Qionghai, Suzhou, and Xiamen are participating in the event.
Sponsored by Sanya Visun Royal Yacht Club and Hainan Visun Marine Tourism Co, the race aims to carry out sailing culture exchanges between cities and promote the development of youth sailing. The competition in Sanya is the fourth stop of the OP race and also the last chance for competitors to break through to the finals.
Sailing has been given great support in many countries and young people in China also have begun be attracted to this exciting sport. The Metropolis Optimist Team Race combines sports with travel and education to allow teenagers to gain sailing knowledge while participating.
The competition will complete six rounds from Aug 14 to 15. The top 10 finishers in terms of total points in the two-day competition will enter the finals, and compete with winners of other cities to qualify for Monaco.
