The city of Sanya, host of the Sixth Asian Beach Games, officially began the venue construction work for the inter-continental event on May 26.

The firstly launched projects include venues for beach handball and rock-climbing events, which are capable of hosting 1,300 and 1,000 spectators respectively.

"After construction work is completed, test events will be held in the beach handball venue to confirm details and improve operation capabilities in order to ensure the successful operation of the Sixth Asian Beach Games," said Hao Jicong, vice director of the construction and operation agency for the Asian Beach Games' sports department.

The exemplary venue will not only provide construction experience, but also operation and service experience for other venues.

To make sure these two projects run smoothly, the construction team has deployed more than 200 workers.

"We hope that through the Sixth Asian Beach Games, we will create a sports business calling card for Sanya," said Guo Jiafan, chief engineer officer of Sanya Tourism and Cultural Investment Group.

With the mission to develop sports travel business for Sanya, these venues will not become pure monuments to the Asian Beach Games, added Guo. "We will endeavor to keep developing relevant sport events after the Games for these venues to host," he explained.
