To boost tourism consumption, China's island province Hainan kicked off the second edition of its off-shore duty-free shopping festival on July 6, with the Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex being the main venue for global shoppers.
A series of activities, ranging from discount sales to TikTok challenge campaigns, are being held during the festival, which will last until October.

From July to October, four duty-free shops in Hainan will not only provide discount coupons and generous gifts to stimulate duty-free shopping, but also launch an online video-making campaign themed around Hainan's duty-free shopping to further promote the festival.

Plane ticket products were also released at the opening ceremony by Hainan Airlines to bring greater convenience to tourists in terms of transportation.
The festival, which has novel and flexible contents, as well as the extensive participation of enterprises, will last longer than previous events, according to Gao Xujiang, executive director and general manager of Sanya Downtown Duty Free Store, which is affiliated to China Duty Free Group.
"We will take full advantage of the festival, carry out nation-wide promotions, and host a series of special activities to make the shopping festival one of Hainan's iconic tourism activities," Gao said, adding that efforts will be made to cultivate the "tourism plus tax-free" market, attract more tourists to Hainan for shopping, as well as promote the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port and an international tourism consumption center.
