The total retail sales of consumer goods in Sanya during the first three quarters of the year reached 24.35 billion yuan ($3.6 billion), an increase of 4.6 percent year-on-year, Sanya Daily reported on Oct 29.

The growth rate marked a 19.8 percentage points increase compared with that for the first half of the year, which was greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city's total retail sales of consumer goods in the third quarter increased by 50.5 percent year-on-year, up by 33.5 percent from the second quarter of the year.

Sanya has formulated a series of policies for accelerating the recovery of the consumer market, carrying out a series of promotional activities in the fields of automobiles, tourism, catering, and poverty alleviation. It has also expanded consumption channels through live streaming for local goods, as well as online and offline promotions to stimulate the nighttime economy.

According to statistics from Haikou Customs, the offshore duty-free sales in Hainan climbed to 10.85 billion yuan since the release of the new offshore shopping quota policy on July 1. The Sanya International Duty-free Shopping Complex has been a popular destination for shoppers from across the world, especially during the National Day Golden Week holiday.
