Sanya has built 4,573 charging piles with 5,495 charging hoses throughout the city by the end of February to boost the construction of new infrastructure.

New infrastructure, which covers areas concerning 5G networks, industrial internet, data centers, artificial intelligence, and new energy vehicle charging stations, involves projects that can offset the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and boost sustainable growth.

A Sanya Bay resident surnamed Wang said that he often charges his car at the public parking lot, which has recently finished upgrading its charging facilities.

"People only need to scan the QR code and charge according to the information prompt, which is very convenient," Wang added.

To date, Sanya's charging facilities have covered the whole city, spanning from tourism attractions like Tianya Haijiao and Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area to parks, bus stops, hotels, hospitals, schools, as well as residential areas.

"We encourage enterprises to participate in the construction of charging infrastructure through preferential policies and electricity bill discounts. We have also been strictly implementing the subsidy policy of Hainan province," said Wu Yanli, head of the transport, energy, and high-tech industry department of the Sanya development and reform commission.

In the future, Sanya will promote charging facilities construction in a reasonable and orderly manner, promote planning and construction of concentrated stations for battery swapping, as well as upgrade power network to better develop the city's new infrastructure.
