Sanya has becoming more appealing to yachts outside the city, with 17 cases of transfer registration filed in the past three months, a year-on-year growth of 325 percent.

The financing demand of the yacht industry increased significantly in the first quarter of 2021, with seven cases of mortgage registration completed, involving 22.8 million yuan ($3.5 billion), which increased by 6 times and nearly 16 times respectively compared with the same period in 2020.

A total of 298,000 passengers have charted yachts for 46,000 voyages during the first three months of the year, increasing 184.8 percent and 237.5 percent respectively over the same period in 2020.

Sanya will promote the construction of a reform and innovation pilot zone for yacht industry development to meet the demands of tourists and solve existing problems, according to an official from Sanya's maritime safety administration.

The official added that they will enhance work in personnel training, yacht registration reform, and information sharing in the future as it strives to build a comprehensive yacht management and trading service platform to ensure that regulation, trade, as well as leasing process can be done online.
