Sanya has used the opportunity provided by the China International Consumer Products Expo, which took place in Hainan province from May 7 to 10, to increase its global profile.

The city's local tourism promotion bureau released a promotional video on more than 20 domestic mainstream video platforms during the event. And articles in seven languages were published in eight countries and regions including Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and the United States to reveal the changes to Sanya's tourism industry amid the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port.

Over the past three years, Sanya has actively participated in the construction of Hainan FTP by optimizing its industrial structure, cleaning up the local environment and developing a series of preferential policies.

To enhance its attraction as an international tourist destination, Sanya has launched a wide range of novel tourism products and services targeting young consumers with disposable income.

The expo has provided an exhibition and trading platform for global consumer products, and created opportunities for Chinese products looking to access the international market, said Yu Tingting, deputy director of Sanya tourism promotion bureau.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the implementation of Hainan's duty-free policies. In the first quarter of this year, duty-free sales worth 73 billion yuan ($11.2 billion) were made in Sanya, accounting for 77 percent of Hainan's total.

Relying on the policy advantages of Hainan FTP and duty-free shopping, as well as the booming local tourism industry, Sanya aims to become an international holiday resort in the future.
