Sanya ranks first in urban environmental health

The city of Sanya on the resort island of Hainan province ranks first among 80 Chinese cities in terms of the quality of its urban environmental health, followed by Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Shenzhen, according to the Tsinghua Urban Health and Environment Index.

Just 15 of the 80 cities were rated as "Great" in the quality of their urban environmental health. Sanya was one of them.

Published on June 3 at the Second Conference of Health Forum of Boao Forum for Asia, the index evaluates a city's environment based on various measures such as green space, natural environment and pollution control.

The overall environmental quality in South China is better than the north, with coastal areas better than those located inland.
