Sanya's third and fourth makeshift hospitals were put into use on Aug 15 and 16 respectively, providing 3,448 beds for patients in total. With their openings, the city has further expanded its capacity to treat COVID-19 patients.

Spanning 85,757 square meters, Sanya's third makeshift hospital was built on the site of Sanya Sports Industrial Park Stadium and its surrounding supporting facilities. The project started on Aug 10 and it includes 2,241 isolated hospital beds, sanitary passages, toilets, showers, and other auxiliary rooms, as well as 20 medical staff offices, 20 restrooms, a 400-sq-m warehouse, and other clean areas.

Sanya's third makeshift hospital is being managed by the Shanghai medical team sent to aid Hainan during its current COVID-19 outbreak. The first group of 504 medical workers from Shanghai entered the hospital to carry out medical treatment.

Sanya's fourth makeshift hospital is located on No 2 Mangguo Road in Tianya district. Covering an area of 8,200 sq m, it boasts 1,207 isolated hospital beds. It started construction on Aug 14 and it includes the isolation bed area, auxiliary rooms, as well as cleaning area rooms. It is currently being managed by the second group of Shanghai medical staff that were sent to aid Hainan.

Both projects are owned by the Sanya municipal health commission and built by Sanya Investment Construction Group. In order to accelerate construction, the construction unit operated whole day, with Sanya's third makeshift hospital taking five days to complete construction and open, and its fourth makeshift hospital only taking two and a half days.
