Sanya plans 102 key projects for scientific innovation highland

Sanya launched a plan to build a Free Trade Port science and technology innovation highland from 2022 to 2035, with 102 key projects planned, with an investment of 43 billion yuan ($5.9 billion), focusing on the seed, deep-sea, and aerospace industries.

The plan proposes to build a development pattern of "one leading core, two supporting wings, and two regions with synergistic development and global opening-up."

"One leading core" refers to Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City serving as the core to create an internationally competitive science and technology innovation highland.

"Two supporting wings" refers to Lingshui and Ledong linking to strengthen scientific and technological innovation elements, as well as to boost the transformation of scientific and technological innovation achievements.

"Two regions with synergistic development" refers to Baoting and Wuzhishan building a demonstration area for the industrialization of the modern seed industry and tropical agriculture.

"Global opening" refers to carrying out extensive scientific and technological innovation opening-up and cooperation to the international market with ASEAN as the focus, while also building a pilot zone for international cooperation and opening-up.

The plan proposes that by 2025, the construction of major scientific and technological innovation infrastructure, as well as the key platform for scientific and technological innovation with Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City as the core will be basically completed, with more than 700 scientific and technological innovation entities introduced and more than 500 high-tech enterprises introduced.

By 2035, an innovation ecosystem with a strong attraction for innovation resources in the seed, deep-sea, and aerospace industries will be formed, which will strongly support the autonomy and controllability of key core technologies in these industries in China.
