Sanya adds 7 items to city-level intangible cultural heritage list

Sanya recently unveiled its sixth batch of representative items on the city-level intangible cultural heritage list, covering a diverse range of fields, including folk literature, traditional music, arts and crafts, and traditional medicine.

These cultural heritage items include Yazhou Dialect Folk Songs, Li Ethnic Bamboo and Wood Instrumental Music, Coconut Carving, Paper Clay Sculpture Craftsmanship, Hongsha Mooncake Production Techniques, Tengqiao Pork Rib Preparation Methods, and Li Ethnic Bone Injury Treatment Practices.

The selected items are deeply intertwined with daily life. For instance, the craft of making Hongsha Mooncakes involves over 70 traditional workshops in the Hongshan area, preserving handcrafted techniques and cultural symbolism in the mooncake shapes, patterns, and fillings.

Another highlighted craft is the Paper Clay Sculpture Making Technique, which utilizes a new material blend of fiber and clay known as paper clay. Inspired by the Li ethnic artistry, these sculptures reflect local culture and traditions through vibrant creations.

Sanya emphasizes the systematic preservation and inheritance of its intangible cultural heritages. Various departments are exploring cultural resources, enriching the heritage project database, and enhancing promotional efforts. By expanding the integration of intangible cultural heritage and tourism, the city aims to propel the high-quality development of cultural preservation initiatives.
