Even though Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival are over, Sanya's tourism market continues to thrive, with a steady flow of off-season travelers.
Data from Ctrip reveals that post-Chinese New Year destinations like Sanya have seen a significant drop in airfare prices, with average prices decreasing by 30-40 percent. Departing after the Lantern Festival, airfare and hotel prices in various locations have fallen by 30-50 percent compared to the Chinese New Year holiday period.
For families with children still on break or tourists with surplus holiday time, this is the prime period for off-season travel. On the Tuniu platform, more travelers are opting for longer domestic or international trips for deeper experiences.
Both Sanya and Harbin in particular have continued to receive many tourists post-Chinese New Year.
Cities like Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing, Shenyang, Chongqing, Jinan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Wuxi, and Zhengzhou are popular sources of tourists visiting Sanya.
Wuzhizhou Island Tourist Area saw an increase in family-oriented off-season travelers this year. Leveraging its rich flora and fauna resources, the area has introduced a coral planting study program, which has been well-received by visitors.
Additionally, the West Island Marine Culture Tourist Area has seen a surge in post-holiday visitor numbers, often reaching booking limits. The Luhuitou Scenic Area has been welcoming an average of about 13,000 visitors per day post-holiday. Other attractions like the Nanshan Cultural Tourism Area, Atlantis Sanya, and Dadonghai Tourist Area are bustling with visitors enjoying the tropical coastal spring scenery.
"Since late January, hotels have maintained high occupancy rates. Based on current booking trends, the high occupancy rates are expected to continue until late February," said Peng Siyu, assistant director of sales at the InterContinental Sanya Haitang Bay Resort.
