Sanya's Tianya district spurs thriving industries, livelihoods

The Tianya district of Sanya has emerged as an economic powerhouse of the Hainan Free Trade Port with thriving industries and improved livelihoods.

The district has achieved strong economic growth, with its GDP hitting 28 billion yuan ($3.9 billion) in 2024, up 9.4 percent year-on-year.

What's more, the district secured a spot on the national "Leading Counties in Commercial Development" list. The district has also optimized its business environment, attracting 76,760 new business entities since 2023. 

As a key player in Sanya's yacht-building industry, Tianya hosted the fifth China International Consumer Products Expo Yacht Show, featuring 150 vessels from top global brands, reinforcing Sanya's status as the "Asia-Pacific Yacht Capital".

The district is also advancing its tourism integration, earning itself provincial recognition as a top-tier destination with over 10 million overnight visitors annually. 

Innovative rural initiatives - such as "courtyard economy" projects in Shuijiao village - generated over 11 million yuan in revenue in 2024, boosting local incomes.

Meanwhile, Tianya is prioritizing its protection of the eco-system, implementing coastal restoration and waste management programs to enhance sustainability. 

In education and healthcare, new schools and upgraded hospitals - including Central Minzu University Affiliated High School Sanya Branch and the expanded Third People's Hospital of Hainan - have significantly improved public services.

With continued investment in infrastructure and cultural projects, Tianya is poised to drive regional growth as a model of balanced development in the Hainan FTP.
