As the Hainan Free Trade Port accelerates its opening-up, the Yucai Ecological Zone, known the "backyard garden" of Sanya, is embracing transformative growth.
Balancing ecological preservation with sustainable development, it's advancing its rural vitalization and promoting China's "lucid waters and lush mountains" philosophy.
Key projects, such as the integrated water ecosystem restoration, aim to improve the river quality and enhance biodiversity. Meanwhile, the area is tapping into its rainforest economy potential, developing brands like Yucai Rainforest Products to boost local industries.
Yucai is also gaining fame as a hub for tropical fruit, home to China's largest durian plantation. With 4,000 mu (267 hectares) set for harvest in July, breakthroughs in off-season durian production and a planned durian-themed tourism complex highlight its agricultural innovation.
In Nashou village, unique produce like rainbow watermelons and purple sugar apples are further driving up rural incomes, with village revenues in 2024 soaring tenfold compared with 2021.
What's more, rural tourism is thriving as visitors explore Yucai's cultural heritage and its scenic beauty. Initiatives like the "Monthly Trail Run" combine sports with culture and eco-tourism, while grassroots projects - such as the Mingshan village fruit distribution center - showcase community-led growth.
With rising investor confidence, Yucai aims to consolidate its role as a green development leader, contributing to Hainan's vision of modernization.
