Yazhou district has emerged as a key driver of the Hainan Free Trade Port's (FTP) construction - showcasing standout achievements in sci-tech innovation, modern agriculture and in urban-rural integration.

Making use of its strategic location, Yazhou has deepened its "district-city integration" - accelerating projects like the Yazhou Bay Sci-Tech City.

Over 3,400 high-level talent, including 32 "science deans" and 27 "PhD village chief" teams, fuel advancements in seeds industry and in deep-sea technology. What's more, the district has pioneered models like seasonal land leasing for seeds research, boosting incomes for local farmers and fostering a billion-yuan seeds industry.

Yazhou is also championing green development. Its "Gauze Pod" cowpeas and functional crops like high-vitamin vegetables highlight its agricultural innovation. Meanwhile, the Yazhou Bay fishing port and deep-sea aquaculture projects are strengthening the "blue granary".

In addition, cultural tourism is thriving with events like the Yazhou Bay Manghe Music Festival and the Nanshan International Intangible Cultural Heritage Center, blending history with modernity.

In 2024, the district's 177 high-tech companies and 63 percent of Sanya's patents underscore its role as a sci-tech hub.

With improved livability - involving new schools, hospitals and eco-parks - Yazhou is said to be balancing its growth and well-being. As it builds an innovation-driven ecosystem, the district is scripting a new chapter for the Hainan FTP.
