On July 10, the Sanya Foreign Experts Book House opened, alongside a Chinese poetry-themed reading salon organized by the Sanya International Talent Community. The event gathered scholars and experts from multiple countries to engage in cultural discussions, artistic performances, and exchange experiences, highlighting their enthusiasm for Chinese culture and their dedication to working in Hainan.
Professor Foo Check Woo from the National University of Singapore gave a lecture on Tang and Song poetry, saying, "Chinese culture continues to fascinate us, and Su Dongpo is still a literary icon. Interestingly, during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), poetry was already intertwined with music, similar to modern pop songs." He also commended Sanya's cleanliness and highlighted the importance of fostering young talent.
Dallas Taylor, an American teacher at Shanghai International Studies University's Sanya Affiliated Middle School, captivated the audience with his guqin performance. He said, "My interest in Chinese philosophy and history started in university." Taylor explained that he moved to Sanya for two main reasons: an invitation from a close friend to teach English and the guqin, and the coastal scenery that reminded him of his childhood in California.
Attendees also heard from entrepreneurs like Canada's Jay and Ghana's Qian Chengcheng, who shared their business experiences in Hainan. Bahareh Asefi from Hainan Tropical Ocean University praised Sanya, highlighting its positive work environment, friendly colleagues, and relaxing beaches.
The event provided a platform for cultural exchange and highlighted Sanya's attractiveness to international talent. The Sanya International Talent Community intends to host more varied activities to promote a global talent network, enhancing the city's reputation as an open and welcoming hub for professionals from around the world.
