On Sept 12, Sanya launched its first National Science Outreach Month, featuring an exhibition attended by over 40 organizations and enterprises. Innovations in deep-sea technology, agricultural breeding, artificial intelligence, and environmental protection were showcased.
The expo attracted large crowds with interactive displays including models of deep-sea mining equipment, the ''Wukong'' submersible, unmanned aerial vehicles, programming robots, and humanoid robots. Highlights such as VR ocean experiences, AI psychological interaction platforms, and ecological art installations were particularly popular among young visitors.
''It's more fun learning through hands-on experience than just reading books,'' said a citizen surnamed Li. ''My child was especially fascinated by the robots and VR — he didn't want to leave!''
This event marks the first National Science Popularization Month since the revised national science popularization law took effect in December 2024, which designates September as a month dedicated to nationwide science outreach. Sanya, a leader in science literacy in Hainan province, aims to make science accessible to all through community and school programs.
Over the following month, a series of activities will be held targeting youth, women, and emergency safety education. Chen Qian, vice president of the Sanya Association for Science and Technology, said that the event supports both the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port and the national strategy of building a modern sci-tech nation.
