Between July 1 to Aug 31, Sanya Phoenix International Airport concluded its 62-day summer travel season, setting new records across various performance metrics.
The airport upheld safety and service standards while managing 23,309 flight movements, accommodating 3.697 million passengers, and processing 12,210.9 metric tons of cargo and mail. These figures represent year-on-year growth of 2.7 percent, 0.3 percent, and 25.3 percent, respectively.
To cater to various travel needs, Sanya airport expanded its flight network by increasing frequencies to cities like Taiyuan and Nanchang. It also upgraded aircraft on major routes, including Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, to wide-body planes. Three new international routes were introduced: Sanya-Seoul, Frankfurt-Bangkok-Sanya, and Sanya-Jinan-Seoul. The Frankfurt-Bangkok-Sanya route is significant as Hainan's first fifth-freedom route connecting Europe, improving travel options for both European and Southeast Asian travelers.
Passenger services were enhanced by introducing flexible security channel management, providing dedicated check-in for group travelers, and offering better assistance for passengers with special needs. Although adverse weather conditions such as high temperatures and typhoons posed challenges, the airport responded by making dynamic flight adjustments and implementing contingency plans to ensure high on-time performance.
With the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays nearing, the airport has proactively developed initial operational plans to guarantee safe and smooth travel.
