Sanya tops domestic hotlist for 2026's extended Spring Festival holiday

The State Council's announcement of a nine-day Spring Festival holiday (Feb 15-23, 2026) has sparked increased travel interest, making Sanya a top domestic destination. Its unique winter climate is driving early preparations for an immersive vacation.

 Online travel platforms are experiencing a surge in searches and bookings for the extended holiday, especially for medium and long-haul trips and outbound travel. Sanya stands out as one of the top destinations for the 2026 Spring Festival.

The extended holiday increases interest in travel, especially for longer trips. Ctrip ranks Sanya alongside Harbin and Xi'an as top domestic destinations. An official from Ctrip mentioned that the longer holiday "significantly boosts medium and long-haul leisure demand", with travelers often mixing domestic and international travel or choosing single-destination trips. Data from Tongcheng Travel and Qunar also indicate that Sanya is the most popular for hotel bookings and flight searches, with a 63 percent rise in Spring Festival air ticket sales compared to last year.

A new travel trend is emerging by combining holidays with Valentine's Day, with searches for Feb 14-15 doubling. Industry analysis indicates that this nine-day break will help distribute visitor flow to Sanya more evenly, enhancing travelers' experiences as they move from hurried trips to more immersive stays.
