Sanya Mango Festival is back, drawing lots of buyers

Crowds turned out in force when the fifth annual Sanya Mango Festival took place in the Tianya district on April 2.

Known for their very special tree-ripened quality and a brand value of 6.139 billion yuan ($898 million), Sanya's mangoes attracted major retailers to the event like Hema and Yonghui Superstores — along with buyers from across the country, leading to a raft of contract signings.

The deals are expected to provide fresh momentum for the high-quality development of Hainan's tropical agriculture.

In fact, Sanya's mangoes are a flagship product of Hainan's tropical agriculture. With their rich natural growing conditions and consistently high quality, they've been popular nationwide for years.

This year's festival helped more producers and buyers get connected. Aside from major retailers including Hema and Yonghui Superstores, leading e-commerce platforms — like JD.com, Taobao, Douyin and Kuaishou, as well as fruit distributors and cold chain logistics companies from Shandong, Beijing and Shanghai — were keen participants.

To make the event more effective, it featured a slew of engaging activities such as an opening ceremony, brand displays, a mango market, product tastings and a signing ceremony.

They highlighted the growth and brand strength of the Sanya mango industry in a broad-based manner.

At the signing ceremony, the Sanya Mango Association signed strategic partnerships with several national buyers — securing a number of high-quality orders and further opening up sales channels for Sanya's mangoes.

Overall, Sanya boasts a mango cultivation area of 430,000 acres, making up about 45 percent of the province's total.

The annual yield is around 500,000 tons, generating nearly 6 billion yuan in production value each year.

In the 2025 China Fruit Brand Value Evaluation survey, Sanya mangoes were valued at 6.139 billion yuan, ranking 16th nationwide.

Recognized as a national geographical indication product, Sanya mangoes have been listed in several national agricultural brand directories — steadily boosting their brand influence.
