The 2026 Sanya Summer Internship and Exchange Program for Taiwan Youth — organized by the Taiwan Affairs Offices of Hainan province and Sanya city — recently wrapped up.

A group of 10 Taiwan students took part, engaging in job internships and cultural study.

Overall, they developed their professional skills through hands-on practice and explored the shared cultural heritage of both sides of the Taiwan Strait — while witnessing the vibrant growth of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

During the program, students interned at upscale hotels in Haitang Bay — gaining experience in roles in the lobby, in restaurants and in housekeeping, among other places.

The internships allowed them to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, expanding their perspectives and enhancing their skills.

In the cultural study part of the program, they visited sites such as Luobi Cave, the Hainan Provincial Museum, the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Center, Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City and Wenchang Space Exploration Center.

The visits offered insights into China's rich traditional culture, the appeal of eco-tourism and the advancements in the Hainan FTP in areas like seed breeding, deep-sea technology and aerospace — providing a full picture of the nation's dynamic growth.

The Taiwan students said the program not only boosted their professional abilities, but also gave them a deeper appreciation for the country's economic and social developments and the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.

They added that they intended to closely follow the progress of the Hainan FTP — and to strive to be advocates and facilitators of cross-Strait integration.
