Sanya Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital was filled with the distinctive scent of the therapeutic mugwort herb on Aug 6-7 as over 40 international students from 13 countries — including the US, Germany and the UK — watched demonstrations of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) beauty treatments.
They were at the hospital, located in the coastal city of Sanya in China's southernmost Hainan province, to fully immerse themselves in the wonders of TCM.
Over the years, Sanya Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has established overseas centers in Kazakhstan, Canada and in other countries.
It also operates five international telemedicine platforms in nations like France, Cabo Verde and Australia.
Thanks to the Hainan Free Trade Port's visa-free policy, international exchanges in TCM are becoming more frequent and practical.
In the first half of 2026, the hospital's international wellness center hosted 8,028 foreign visitor trips — a 50.33 percent increase on the previous year — along with 13 groups of overseas study tour participants.
Moving forwards, the hospital is expanding its network of overseas TCM centers and telemedicine platforms — using study tours as a bridge for cultural exchanges and learning between Chinese and global traditional medicine.
