Sanya ranks 1st in Hainan's rural vitalization assessment

Sanya ranked first in an assessment by Hainan province to evaluate government leadership's performance in promoting its rural vitalization strategy. The city has achieved great results in tropical high-efficiency agriculture, Nanfan Silicon Valley, and construction of shared farms in 2021.

The performance assessment covered six aspects: industrial prosperity, ecological livability, rural civilization, effective governance, quality of life, and organizational security, with 82 assessment indicators and a total of 1,000 points. Sanya ranked first among cities and counties in Hainan with 885.42 points.

In 2021, the total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries in Sanya was 14.12 billion yuan ($2.11 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5 percent. The per capita disposable income of its rural permanent residents was 20,413 yuan, growing by 11 percent, while the income level and growth rate were among the top in the province.

According to the national Nanfan Silicon Valley construction plan, Sanya has accelerated the construction of Nanfan Science and Technology City, the global animal and plant germplasm resources introduction and transfer base, as well as the biological valleys in 2021.

Meanwhile, the construction of an efficient agricultural system with tropical characteristics has also been completed, while 100,000 mu of the Nanfan protected area and 179,000 mu of the rubber planted area have been built. In addition, three agricultural products have been recognized as geographical indication products.

It is an important measure for Sanya to promote the construction of a beautiful countryside and realize rural vitalization by creating shared farmlands. In recent years, the city has built a number of high-quality shared farms, which has broadened the rural tourism industry, promoted the development of villages, as well as increased farmers' incomes.
