Sanya has become a popular travel destination for the upcoming May Day holiday, with the search volume of flights to the city increasing by 1,000 percent, according to online travel service provider Ctrip.
The number of tourists who came to the city during last year's May Day holiday stood at 53.5 percent of the 2019 figure, while tourism income dropped to 36.7 percent. As this year's epidemic situation is far better than last year, the number of tourists is expected to see a strong growth momentum, said Zhang Zhining, deputy director of the Strategy Research Center of the Ctrip Research Institute.
Zhang added that self-driving tours are being explored by tourists, while high-quality products such as customized private tour groups and luxury hotels are expected to be popular choices during May Day.
During the May Day holiday, popular travel destinations in Sanya - including Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex, Wuzhizhou Island, Tianya Haijiao (which translates as "the edge of the sea and the rim of the sky"), Paddy Field National Park, and Sanya Haichang Fantasy Town - will all launch a series of preferential measures to attract tourists.
