On Jan 26, a passage project connecting Lingshui Tufu Bay and Sanya Haitang Bay opened to traffic. The project has a length of 2,781 meters and shortens the distance between the two bays by 10 kilometers.

Before the construction of the project, Yezhou Road was built on the coastal area of Tufu Bay and Tengqiao Road was built on the coastal area of Haitang Bay. But both Yezhou Road and Tengqiao Road are separated by Coconut Island Scenic Spot. The straight-line distance between the two bays is only about 1.8 km. However, the traffic between the two bays needs to bypass the roundabout expressway and the G223 national road, which requires an extra 10 km.

According to an official of the Sanya municipal bureau of transportation, the construction of the project will strengthen the connection between Lingshui Li autonomous county and Sanya improving the road network structure of the Greater Sanya Tourism Economic Circle and the tourist road around the island. This will give full play to Sanya Haitang Bay's radiating effect as an international tourism area, as well as promote the region's economic development.
