Over the May Day holiday on May 1-5, domestic travel across China really took off — with air traffic running at very high capacity.
Sanya Phoenix International Airport efficiently handled the surge, managing 1,998 flights and 312,300 passenger trips, with everything going smoothly and according to plan.
To ensure streamlined transportation during the May Day break, the airport took proactive steps by coordinating with airlines to optimize their flight routes.
It increased flights to popular cities like Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Shenyang, Urumqi and Zhuhai — and used wide-body aircraft to boost capacity during peak times.
To further elevate the passenger experience, the airport revamped its security process by moving power bank checks to the front of the security lines.
This change, along with offering free consultations and packaging services, improved efficiency and raised the safety and service quality.

The airport also celebrated the holiday by hosting themed activities in the terminal, honoring frontline workers and creating a festive atmosphere.
Passengers were handed holiday-themed gifts, adding a personal touch to the travel experience and making the airport feel both efficient and welcoming.
