The key railway operations for the 2026 Dragon Boat Festival holiday wrapped up smoothly on June 22.

From June 18 to 21, Hainan Railway transported over 468,000 passengers, running 230 pairs of intercity trains, 223 pairs of urban trains and 19 pairs of island-bound trains.

The three-day holiday saw a short travel period with concentrated passenger flows — mainly driven by tourism and family visits.

Early in the holiday, traffic flowed outwards from hubs like Haikou and Sanya to other regions and nearby towns.

As the holiday came to a close, return travel was more evenly spread out, with a steadier pace.

To handle the anticipated surge in holiday travelers, the Haikou Railway Service of Hainan Railway prepared for the influx by improving its crowd management in such areas as station plazas and waiting rooms.

It opened additional entry and exit points and security lanes, and set up express and priority lanes to streamline passenger flows.

By accurately predicting peak travel times, the railway service enhanced its on-site management and added staff members as needed to ensure safe and orderly travels.

The Haikou Railway Service also focused on providing inclusive services and boosting support for key passengers.

It installed additional facilities like self-service charging stations and priority seating in waiting areas — and offered special services such as luggage handling and pre-arranged assistance for special passengers.

Staff members were trained to use courteous language and offer their services with a smile — ensuring that passengers' needs were met without unnecessary interruptions, creating a warm and comfortable travel experience.
