Nanfan Silicon Valley forum shows Sanya's agri-achievements

On April 4, the 2023 China Seed Congress and Nanfan Agricultural Silicon Valley Forum concluded in Sanya, Hainan. The four-day event attracted over 3,000 seed industry representatives from all over the world.

The event includes one main forum and 13 sub-forums, with 10 academicians and more than 150 experts invited to discuss key issues in the seed industry, thus contributing to the development of both China's seed industry and Nanfan Silicon Valley.

A total of 59 forums were held over the last five sessions, with over 70 academicians attending. 645 reports were made by domestic and foreign experts and scholars, proposing valuable suggestions one after another.

"The National Modern Agricultural Development Zone in Sanya has displayed 1,887 seed varieties — including maize, rice, other grains, fruits, and vegetables — from 264 exhibitors this year, all of which were developed over the past few years," said Ai Yilun, general manager of Hainan State Farms Investment Holdings Group.

The abundance of sunlight and warm tropical temperatures make the area around the city of Sanya a paradise for seed cultivation in China. In addition to those advantages, the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port over the past few years has also led to the establishment China's "Nanfan Silicon Valley" in Sanya, a scientific research and seed cultivation base with carefully planned land utilization layout and efficient services.

Over the last few decades, about 70 percent of all newly developed agricultural varieties across China were created and grown in Hainan, which has produced an increasing variety of cotton, linen, oil-producing plants, tubers, fruits, vegetables, flowers, aquatic products, livestock, and poultry species.
