Sanya airport transports over 9m passengers this year

From Jan 1 to May 28, Sanya Phoenix International Airport has transported 9.53 million passengers, surpassing its total of 9.51 million in 2022.

Since the beginning of this year, the airport has optimized its route network layout. In addition to adding four new navigable cities such as Yichang, Weifang, Handan, and Yueyang, it has also planned routes from Sanya to Changsha, Chengdu, and Wuhan, which will provide passengers with more diverse travel options.

In order to meet the conditions for the resumption of international passenger flights by the end of June, the airport has increased its investment in machinery and manpower. It has also accelerated the construction of its international terminal reconstruction and expansion project. To date, the project is 90 percent complete.

After its completion, the new terminal will improve the airport's operational efficiency, optimize port functions, and contribute to the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. It is expected to ensure an annual international passenger throughput of about 3 million people.
