Colden Coconut Awards winners crowned in Sanya

The glittering closing ceremony for the 6th Hainan Island International Film Festival took place in Sanya city – located in China's southernmost Hainan province – on the evening of Dec 10.


At the event, the judges – renowned directors, actors and experts from home and abroad – unveiled the winners of Colden Coconut Awards.


This year's film festival attracted 4,330 film submissions from 117 countries and regions.


Of these, eight feature documentaries, 10 short films and 14 feature films made it to the finals of the Golden Coconut Awards. The jury, led by acclaimed French director Luc Besson, selected the winners for the 10 final awards.

The film Holy Electricity from Georgia clinched the Best Picture award, while the Serbian film 78 Days received the Grand Jury Prize.


Laetitia Dosch of France was honored as Best Director for the Dog on Trial and Alberth Merma took home the Best Actor award for the Peruvian-Chilean drama Through Rocks and Clouds.


Indian actress Preeti Panigrahi was recognized as Best Actress for Girls Will Be Girls, while the Best Scriptwriter award went to Ruth Becquart and Leonardo Van Dijl for the Belgian psychological drama Julie Keeps Quiet.


The debut feature film, My Friend An Delie directed by Chinese actor Dong Zijian, claimed both the Best Visual Effect and Best Chinese Contribution of the Year accolades.


Chilean-Argentinian-French feature An Oscillating Shadow was honored as Best Documentary Film, while Vox Humana directed by Filipino filmmaker Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan took the title for Best Short Film.
