The poster of the sixth Hainan Island International Film Festival – themed on "From Oceans, with Visions" – combines the geographical beauty of Hainan Island with the supreme charms of cinematic art.
During a news conference for the festival, Zhang Hua, executive director of Golden Coconut Sea Film, a subsidiary of Sanya Media &Film Group, introduced the design concept behind its promotional poster.
The color palette of the main visual revolves around purple tones. At the top of the design, a dazzling starlit sky resembles a mysterious and enchanting canvas, with each star shining like a film.
The boundless sea below symbolizes the inclusive embrace of all things in cinematic art. The gentle waves mirror the ebb and flow of dramatic plots in films, with each ripple carrying its unique story.
"The rocky outcrop standing tall above the sea symbolizes resilience bestowed by nature and the eternal values of cinematic art," Zhang explained. The film projector, said to be akin to a beacon shining in the darkness, emits a beam that pierces through the night, bright and warm.
"The constellation pattern outlining the silhouette of Hainan Island, formed by a string of stars in the night sky, serves as the finishing touch of the entire poster," Zhang said.
"This pattern symbolizes that the film festival spreads the charms of the cinema like starlight across every corner of the night sky," he added.
In the top left corner of the poster, the logo is displayed. It's composed of two dynamic bands resembling film strips, intertwining to form the shape of the number 6.
"This poster is not just a visual feast, but also a passionate invitation from Hainan to film enthusiasts worldwide," Zhang said.
"It invites everyone to gather and embark on a marvelous journey exploring the infinite possibilities of cinema," he added.
