On Nov 28, the seventh Hainan Island International Film Festival announced the official lineup for its "Golden Coconut Awards". From 4,564 submissions across 119 countries and regions, 14 feature films, six documentaries, and 10 short films were selected to compete for 10 awards.

The feature films include titles like A Dance in Vain, Black Rabbit White Rabbit, and Blue Heron. Documentaries such as Crossroads and I Sing, I Love, I Exist offer unique perspectives on societal changes. The short film section, including Daria's Night Flowers and L'Mina, highlights the creativity of emerging filmmakers.

Notably, the shortlisted films represent a broad spectrum of regions and cultures, spanning over 20 countries and regions worldwide. A remarkable aspect of this year's "Golden Coconut Awards" is that 50 percent of the shortlisted directors are debut filmmakers.

As a thriving international event, the Hainan Island International Film Festival is dedicated to discovering and nurturing young creative talent, with a focus on emerging directors making their mark on the global film scene.

All shortlisted films will have their inaugural screenings in Hainan, with many making their China mainland debut and several having their world premiere. During the festival, some filmmakers will attend in person to interact with audiences, share insights, and discuss future trends in cinematic art.
