Sanya accelerates construction of 'zero waste city'

Since being selected as one of the first pilot cities for the construction of "zero waste cities" in 2019, Sanya has implemented several projects and strategies to accelerate the construction efforts.

A "zero waste city" refers to an advanced urban development and management model that aims to promote green lifestyles, minimize the amount of waste produced, strengthen recycling programs, and ensure that any waste released into the environment is harmless.

Since 2019, Sanya has been implementing innovative measures that encourage local residents and enterprises to embrace and promote green development.

In addition to the city's newly established circular economy industrial park, which is an important guarantee project for the construction of a "zero waste city”, the city has also launched other related projects. 

These projects include waste incineration power plants, food and kitchen waste treatment plants, medical waste treatment centers, and comprehensive utilization plants for construction waste.

The city has also placed particular emphasis on integrating the "zero waste city" concept with the tourism industry. They have done this by creating 38 "zero waste hotels" and 13 "zero waste scenic areas", including 1 Hotel Haitang Bay, Sunshine Resort Intime Sanya, the Luhuitou Scenic Area, and the Wuzhizhou Island Tourist Area.

In the future, Sanya plans to continue implementing and promoting zero waste facilities, aiming to extend this concept to airports and islands.
