In Sanya's Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, Muhammad Amir Shehzad, a Pakistani entrepreneur, effortlessly switches between Mandarin and English while assisting foreign entrepreneurs. The 32-year-old former medical student has become known as the "walking guidebook" among expat business owners.

Shehzad first came to China in 2015 to study medicine in Shijiazhuang. Spotting demand for Pakistani pink salt, he launched his first import business. "Our salt unexpectedly became an internet sensation," he recalled.

In 2022, attracted by Hainan's favorable policies, Shehzad established two ventures: a coconut oil trading company and an expat consultancy. "Yazhou Bay processed my paperwork incredibly fast," he said, praising the zone's efficient services. The business hub offers one-stop solutions for over 100 procedures, with some approvals completed within 24 hours.

The zone's "Dream Vision Board" incubator has attracted 32 foreign startups with benefits like free office space and three-day registrations. Shehzad helped his friend Shujjat Ali Khan launch an export business promoting Chinese products in the Middle East.

Now a self-described "two-way ambassador", Shehzad promotes bilateral trade at international expos. "I want to strengthen China-Pakistan ties," he said. When not working, he enjoys going to the gym and watching the sunset at the beach. "Hainan is my second home," he added. "I hope more global talent can realize their dreams here."

The science city's business support team guarantees 24-hour response times, while policies like tariff exemptions are continuing to attract foreign investment. Shehzad's journey from medical student to entrepreneur exemplifies Hainan's growing appeal as an international business hub.
