6th Asian Beach Games open water swimming event begins

The open water swimming races are beginning at the Haiyue Square Venue Cluster in Sanya Bay.

The competition is featured with a myriad of challenges — as distinct from those of indoor pools — including wind, waves, ocean currents, water quality and local marine life. They test not only the physical endurance of the swimmers, but also their adaptability and overall ability.

As the swimmers navigate the waves, they are in full view of Phoenix Island across the sea. The island stands as a serene guardian of the lively waters — not just as a scenic backdrop, but as a striking landmark on the coast of the South China Sea.
