According to Sanya Customs, the import and export of goods in Sanya reached 19.31 billion yuan ($2.64 billion) in the first three quarters of this year, which represents a growth of 16.8 percent compared to the same period last year. This foreign trade scale ranks third in Hainan province.
The exports were valued at 2.27 billion yuan, an increase of 86.8 percent. The imports were valued at 17.04 billion yuan, showing an 11.3 percent increase.
The import of duty-free goods remains the city's primary trading method. In the first three quarters, Sanya imported duty-free goods worth 8.22 billion yuan, representing a growth of 21.2 percent and accounting for 42.6 percent of the total import and export value.
Private enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises in Sanya saw exponential growth in imports and exports. In the first three quarters, imports and exports by State-owned enterprises amounted to 12.88 billion yuan, a decrease of 10.5 percent; imports and exports by private enterprises reached 6.41 billion yuan, doubling in value. Meanwhile, foreign-invested enterprises recorded imports and exports worth 12.21 million yuan, also doubling their figures.
Sanya's top three trading partners are the European Union, Switzerland, and Japan. In the first three quarters of this year, Sanya imported and exported goods worth 5.98 billion yuan to the European Union, a decrease of 20.4 percent. During the same period, Sanya imported and exported goods worth 2.52 billion yuan to Switzerland, an increase of 39.4 percent; imports and exports to Japan amounted to 2.42 billion yuan, showing a growth of 47.7 percent.
