Sanya to host events promoting traditional Chinese culture

Sanya is set to host a series of events called "Chinese Traditional Culture in Yazhou," which will kick off on Aug 26 year and run through to March 11, 2024.

The first writing ceremony of the Yazhou Confucian Temple will be held on Aug 26. Since 2016, the ceremony has been held over consecutive years and it has become one of the important cultural events in Sanya.

This year's first writing ceremony will be accompanied by activities such as an experience exhibition for the six arts - rites, music, archery, chariot-racing, calligraphy and mathematics, as well as calligraphy and painting exhibitions and classical literature reading clubs, aiming to promote the inheritance of traditional culture.

A Yazhou Cultural Symposium will take place in Sanya on Sept 28-29. The symposium will have as its theme "Inheritance and Innovation: Yazhou Culture in the Perspective of Hainan Free Trade Port." Leading experts will gather to discuss the inheritance and development of Yazhou culture.

A ceremony in honor of Confucius, to take place on Sept 28-29, will allow participants to experience the traditional culture, as well as create an atmosphere of respecting teachers and valuing education.

In addition, the Sanya World Confucian Merchants Conference is planned for December 2023 in Sanya, while some intangible cultural heritage events will be held on March 11, 2024 at the Daxiao Dongtian Scenic Area in Yazhou district.
