Sanya's intangible cultural heritage treasures

Sanya in Hainan province boasts a long history and rich culture. Here is the list of the city's national-level and provincial-level heritage items.

1.Li Bamboo Dance (National) 

The ancient Li ethnic dance features rhythmic pole-tapping, requiring dancers to nimbly leap between moving bamboo sticks. It was recognized in 2006.

2.Yazhou Folk Songs (National)

Sung in local dialect with erhu accompaniment, these ballads express the joys and sorrows of seafaring life. It has been preserved since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). 

3.Danjia Fishermen's Songs (National) 

These Cantonese-style "saltwater songs" created by Tang Dynasty (618-907) fishermen feature four melodic patterns conveying maritime emotions. 

4.Li Textile Craft (Provincial) 

Li women master spinning, dyeing, weaving, and embroidery using natural fibers, creating unique double-sided patterns.

5.Li Primitive Pottery (Provincial) 

This neolithic-era technique uses clay coils, shell polishing and open-fire baking – making it a true archaeological treasure.

6. Miao Panhuang Dance (Provincial) 

This ritual dance honors ancestors with long drums and cymbals. 

7.Hui Traditional Wedding (Provincial) 

This vibrant Islamic marriage custom features elaborate bridal costumes and headdresses in Sanya's Hui villages. 

8.Conch Maiden Legend (Provincial) 

Thid beloved Dan fishing folktale about a sea goddess symbolizes protection and love, celebrated through seasonal rituals.
