The Sanya Central Business District Administration and the Mediterranean Bluefin Industry Development (Hainan) have recently entered into an investment cooperation agreement, marking the first time that a Maltese company operating in Hainan has set up operations in Sanya. The move marks a new phase for both parties in the marine economic sector, as well as in their trade and economic relations.

Malta MFF Fisheries Group was established in 1993 and currently produces approximately 500 tons of gilt-head bream and European seabass annually. Since 2002, the group has sold bluefin tuna on an annual basis, playing a dominant role in the international sushi and sashimi market supply chain.

The signing of the agreement marks a significant milestone in Sanya's international cooperation in the fields of deep-sea fisheries and deep-sea technology. Under the agreement, both parties are expected to engage in comprehensive collaboration in multiple areas, leveraging the strategic location and policy benefits of the Hainan Free Trade Port to jointly identify new growth's opportunities in the marine economy.
