Sanya to be terminal point of Hainan road cycling race

The 14th Hainan International Road Cycling Race, a five-day event, will commence on Oct 5 with Qionghai as the starting point and Sanya as the terminal point.

This upgraded edition of the cycling race marks the first international top-tier sports competition to be held in the Hainan Free Trade Port since its establishment.

A total of 20 professional cycling teams from around the world will be invited to participate, including four Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) professional teams, 14 UCI continental teams, and two national teams from China and Mongolia, respectively. The race will see 140 participants competing for a total prize pool of $300,000.

The race consists of five stages that cover a total distance of 789.9 kilometers, and pass through 11 cities and counties on Hainan Island. This includes Qionghai, Wanning, Lingshui, Baoting, Wuzhishan, Qiongzhong, Baisha, Changjiang, Dongfang, Ledong, and Sanya.

As a homegrown international event that has gained global recognition, the Hainan International Road Cycling Race has evolved over the last 17 years. In the future, the race will contribute to the development of the Hainan FTP as a sports tourism destination.
