On June 5, World Environment Day was observed worldwide. In Sanya, the construction of ecological civilization and environmental protection is seamlessly woven into its holistic eco-social development approach.
The city outlined a comprehensive plan called the "City of Eight Beauties" this year, focusing on fields such as tropical biodiversity and green low-carbon development. The plan comprises 38 strategic tasks and 23 pivotal projects, aiming to build a modern tropical coastal city where humans and nature coexist harmoniously.
It is also promoting initiatives such as the "Clean Energy Island" project, widespread adoption of prefabricated and green buildings, implementation of comprehensive water management strategies, and promotion of nearly zero-carbon construction in various sectors, as part of efforts to advance the construction of the national ecological civilization pilot zone.

In addition, Sanya aims to introduce no fewer than 17,700 new electric vehicles annually, targeting full adoption of clean energy vehicles in public service and social operation sectors. It is also pushing for the large-scale operation of prefabricated building production bases, aiming to ensure that 80 percent of new urban constructions are prefabricated buildings.
Furthermore, Sanya is striving to become a "Zero Waste City" by promoting waste reduction and recycling across various sectors. It is targeting a 35 percent recycling rate for household waste and 100 percent harmless disposal of such waste.
Efforts to control agricultural source pollution are underway, with targets including a pesticide packaging waste recycling rate of over 90 percent, a recycling and treatment rate of over 85 percent for discarded agricultural films, and a comprehensive utilization rate of over 85 percent for livestock and poultry manure.
