Popularity of off-peak travel in Sanya remains high

The Spring Festival holiday may be over, but Sanya's tourist appeal remains as strong as ever — with many travelers opting to skip the holiday crowds, choosing instead to pack light and head to the coastal city.

Right now, Sanya's scenery feels especially serene. For example, Bohou village in Jiyang district — with its prime location between the mountains and sea and its cozy, stylish boutique inns — has become a much-favored spot for both local and international visitors looking to enjoy a quieter getaway.

As one of the largest boutique guesthouse villages in Hainan, Bohou village now features over 70 boutique inns with more than 2,000 rooms. In fact, entering the village feels like discovering a hidden retreat far from the chaos of everyday life.

"Since Spring Festival, we've been fully booked almost every day," said Yuan Feifei, manager of Shanhai Wutong Inn, while tidying up a tea table with a smile.

"Guests who come during the off-peak season really appreciate the peace and the unique experience. We've got a lot of domestic visitors, but quite a few international ones too. Our most popular room types are really in demand," Yuan added.

"Since the start of the Spring Festival holiday, Bohou village has been buzzing with activity," said Su Shaohong, the Party secretary and village committee director of Bohou. He noted that there had been a noticeable uptick in foreign visitors in this year.

One such guest was Sofia from Russia, who was lounging in the courtyard and soaking up the sun. It was her third year in a row spending time in Sanya after the New Year celebrations.

"I absolutely love the sunshine and sea breeze here," she said.

"The guesthouse is peaceful and the staff members are super friendly. They even showed me how to make tea, letting me dive into Chinese tea culture. It's just so cozy and warm here," she enthused.

Wandering through the streets of Bohou village, visitors will find that each guesthouse boasts its own unique style — and every corner has a poetic touch. Here, people from all over the world come together, united by the beauty of the mountains and the sea — sharing wonderful moments and discovering new landscapes in a relaxed and carefree atmosphere.
