Since kicking off its global call for entries on Aug 18, the 8th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) has received 2,024 film submissions from 121 countries and regions in just the first week — and of these, 259 are from China and 1,765 are international.
Scheduled to take place in December in Sanya, Hainan province, this year's HIIFF features two main categories for submissions — the Golden Coconut Award competition and the screening section.
The competition includes three categories: Feature films, documentaries and short films. The Golden Coconut Awards will present 10 prizes — including Best Picture, Grand Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Scriptwriter, Best Visual Effect, Best Chinese Contribution of the Year, Best Documentary Film and Best Short Film.
The screening section will showcase outstanding films from around the world.
The submission is still open. Filmmakers can register and submit their entries for both the Golden Coconut Award competition and the screening sections through the official HIIFF website (www.hiiff.net). The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sept 24 (Beijing Time).
