Sanya and Karakol sign letter of intent for sister city relationship

Sanya and Karakol in Kyrgyzstan signed a letter of intent to establish a sister city relationship through an exchange of cooperation documents on Aug 14. This marks a significant step in international collaboration between the two cities, laying the groundwork for a lasting partnership.

According to the agreement, Sanya and Karakol will adhere to the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit to enhance understanding between their people, deepen traditional ties, and expand pragmatic exchanges and cooperation across multiple fields, including tourism, economy and trade, culture, and education.

The two sides have also agreed to set up regular communication channels to ensure meaningful progress is made in these areas.

Karakol, located in the Issyk-Kul Region of eastern Kyrgyzstan, is the regional capital and the fourth-largest city in the country. It's a key transport hub linking Kyrgyzstan with China and Kazakhstan.

As the capital of Issyk-Kul Region, Karakol is also a major tourist destination.

This sister city relationship with Sanya falls in line with China's diplomatic goals while enhancing the tropical resort city's presence in Central Asia.

It is expected to boost Sanya's visibility and influence in Belt and Road countries while also positioning Karakol as a strategic point for Sanya to connect with the Central Asian market, strengthening economic, trade, cultural and tourism ties between China and Kyrgyzstan.
